The Provider

The Provider

Journey with Jesus, The Ministry Years

The Provider

Intro to the story of John 6

He feeds the 5,000

They gather up 12 baskets

The people want to make him King He departs to the mountains

Jesus walks on the water

The people find him and want more bread

He is the true bread

He tells them the manna was just bread for the flesh

Eat his bread and live for ever

Eat his flesh drink his blood

Scandal

Many walk away from Him and things begin to shift from an accepted ministry to a misunderstood ministry and the desire of People to kill him.

Ruth 1:1
Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.

Ruth 1:6
Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had visited His people by giving them bread.

John 6:35
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Communion:

1 Corinthians 11:23-32
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks thiscup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

  1. The famines of the Old Testaments were a type of the spiritual famine that exist in the world and our need is the true bread Jesus Christ.

Ruth 1:1
Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.

They lived in the house of Bread but they went to Moab to get bread.

Lets use the law of first mention

Genesis 19:36-37
Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; heis the father of the Moabites to this day.

Moab is a place of the flesh its origins are fleshly and incest.

Jesus is the provider

Your flesh will never satisfy you look at the end result they lost all of the men of their family seeking bread in Moab.

Today how many men have lost their souls to the flesh of Moab.

Now lets see the type of Christ in this Old Testament Story

Ruth 1:6
Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had visited His people by giving them bread.

When Naomi and Ruth go back to Bethlehem they go back to the house of bread.  Ruth a Moabite becomes grafted into the linage of Christ.

This shows us the great redemption that was coming to this earth

Jesus would provide a way for all flesh to come to the true house of bread and receive eternal life.

2.  Jesus the provider

John 6:35
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

His provision all hinges on the spiritual side not the fleshly side.  Until you have walked through the door of Christ and he takes away your hunger and thirst with himself you will not experience the relief that comes in this life that can only come by the provider.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you

The people in John 6 wanted only more bread

They wanted the manna that there forefathers had had

Jesus said that even though that they had eaten the manna they still died

The only way to live eternally was to eat of Him

Then they would be raised up at the last day

We have gotten away from living with the end in mind.

We have almost eliminated heaven and eternal life from christianity today

People used to say that the church was so heavenly minded they were no earthly good.  Now the church is so earthly minded we are no heavenly good.

In John 5 Jesus proclaims that He is the resurrection and Life now He is living it out in front of the people and they cry scandal.

It is no different today as long as we can serve a comfortable Jesus who does everything we want

One we can keep in our boxes

One that asks nothing of us

But when we must eat His flesh and drink His blood it is too much for us.

Genesis 22:13-14
Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The- Lord -Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
