Refiners Fire

Refiners Fire

Let Your refining fire purify me again

Malachi 3:2-3

“But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire And like launderers’ soap. He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.

God, where are you?• Why aren’t God’s promises being fulfilled?• Why does it seem like I am going backwards?• Why does nothing seem to be going right?• God, why aren’t you moving in my life?

Three step process to get us to our destinies1. Promise. (you catch a glimpse of your destiny)2. Process (wilderness, trial, frustrations)3. Promotion (promise fulfilled)

Psalm 37:23

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

The refining process helps you to develop the character to handle the promise.

1 Peter 1:37

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

Little while

Grieved by various trials

Holiness is a product of my grace

Trials

Irritations

Anger

You can’t cast out flesh you have to crucify it

When gold is heated impurities appear

Preparing us for what He has promised us4. The Promise, Joseph gets a glimpse

Genesis 37:5 Now Joseph had a dream.

His character could not support the fulfillment

Verse 2 Joseph gave a bad report to his father about his brothers (he was a tattle tale)

His brothers hated him

Because of his dreams

The way he talked to them about them (bragger)

He talked down to his brothers (arrogant and proud)

If the promise is fulfilled right here you have self absorbed narcissistic dictator.

Sold into slavery

2.  This starts the Process, the wilderness, the trial, the frustrations

Worst then death

As a son of a free man

He is now a slave and and that meant for life.

Obeys God

Potiphar’s wife

Philippians 2:12-15

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

The Passion Translation

My beloved ones, just like you’ve always listened to everything I’ve taught you in the past, I’m asking you now to keep following my instructions as though I were right there with you. Now you must continue to make this new life fully manifested as you live in the holy awe of God—which brings you trembling into his presence. God will continually revitalize you, implanting within you the passion to do what pleases him. Live a cheerful life, without complaining or division among yourselves. For then you will be seen as innocent, faultless, and pure children of God, even though you live in the midst of a brutal and perverse culture. For you will appear among them as shining lights in the universe,

Passive aggressive

I am upset with you God so I am going to do what I want

Joseph did not do this, he obeyed God in the way that Paul described when no one was looking or no one believed him.

He is accused of the very thing that his character fled from.

Prison

Worse than anything you can imagine.

Bread of affliction

Psalm 105:19 the Passion Translation

God’s promise to Joseph purged his character until it was time for his dreams to come true.

The more he obeys the worst it gets

There are three types of people you have to deal with when it all comes down to it.• The wicked• The hypocritical complainers• Those who fear the Lord

To be terrified to be away from him

Josephs greatest test

Can he convince the baker and butler that he did not belong there that He had an amazing destiny and was innocent and had been falsely accused.when there was not one shred of evidence that what he said wastrue?

Every time he obeys it get worst

He properly delivers the word that God puts in his heart.

The baker is hanged

The butler restored but forgets all about Joseph

19 years

There is no evidence at this point that God is about to complete his promise.

3. The Promotion

Psalm 105:16-22 The Passion Translation

So God decreed a famine upon Canaan land, cutting off their food supply. But he had already sent a man ahead of his people to Egypt; it was Joseph, who was sold as a slave. His feet were bruised by strong shackles and his soul was held by iron. God’s promise to Joseph purged his character until it was time for his dreams to come true. Eventually, the king of Egypt sent for him, setting him free at last. Then Joseph was put in charge of everything under the king; he became the master of the palace over all of the royal possessions. Pharoah gave him authority over all the princes of the land, and Joseph became the teacher of wisdom to the king’s advisors.

3 weeks we become passive aggressive

The enemy wants to put out your fire

Joseph’s brothers were going to kill him but Reuben convinces them not to kill him but throw him in the pit at that point they became the instrument of fulfillment of God’s dream in Joseph.

Job 23:8-10 New Living Translation

I go east, but he is not there. I go west, but I cannot find him. I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden. I look to the south, but he is concealed. “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.

Transparent

You see the treasure inside instead of the vessel.

Job 23:11-12

For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside. I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food.

2 Corinthians 4:17

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

So we have taken the metaphor of a refiners fire and given it a story a face now lets apply that to our lives.
