New Wine in One Nine

Catching the Vision of Church on the Lake

January what a beginning

Proclaiming the gospel with life-giving, dynamic worship that shows passion for Christ, with powerful prayer that makes a difference in our day and with an unshakeable commitment to the Bible as God’s Word and guide for life.

That champions the timeless message of Jesus Christ in a relevant way to every generation.  A church where young and old alike find a home and a valued place to belong.  A church that reaches across the ethnic, socio-economic and racial divides of our day.  We want to be a church that looks like heaven.

That accepts people wherever they are in life’s journey, believing in the value of people created in God’s image and that God can work a miracle in transforming any life.  We are a church that says, “welcome home”.

That opens to the power of Holy Spirit to heal physical, spiritual and emotional pain; believing that God is able to bring wholeness to every area of life.  We are a church that heals the hurting.

Starting today we will look at the last 3 of our Vision statements

You can always go to our website and check them out anytime

I would encourage you to print them out and put them on your fridge or in your Bible and pray over them.

Acts 2:46-47

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

We concluded our series His Last Days the Power of Faith Hope and Love last week:

With Jesus’s Words:

Matthew 28:18-20

All authority has been given to me in Heaven and on Earth Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.  Amen.

That is exactly what they were doing as we come to our text today and it is what we see as our vision as a church.  The Lord added to the church

That experiences ongoing healthy growth numerically, spiritually and influentially.  A church that reaches out to people, reaches up to God and reaches across to impact society for the gospel of Jesus.  We are a church that always has room.

Three types of growth that we want to experience because we are the a living organism.

Either we grow or we are dying.

  1. Numerically

In verse 41 just a little bit up from our text it says about 3,000 souls were added to them.

A growing church is not a bad thing it is something that happens when the word is preached and people gladly receive it.  That can be one person or thousands the number is not what is important it is that we are doing what the Lord has called us to do.

Each one of us should be a part of that adding as we pray for our friends, lead them to Christ or invite them to come and hear the Word.

But we should not just add we should multiply

We should all be disciples that are worth multiplying

My hope is that every person who calls Church on the Lake home that we are able to take you through a time of discipleship training and that you catch the vision of multiplication.

Won by one

Be the one that makes a difference

One of the things that we have talked about as far as a growing church is that our Wednesday night service would look like last Sundays Service.  We had 287 in attendance.  Imagine the impact of that kind of a prayer meeting on our community.

Now obviously in order to have that many on Wednesday things on Sunday will be a lot different then they are now

We would have to have multiple services

We would have to have many more volunteers for our children and hosts ministries

More prayer partners

So growing numerically involves all of us

In the military language

We need to become a praying army!

In farming language

We need to become harvest hands!

The Church on the Lake growing means there is more for each of us to do and serve.

2.  Growing Spiritually

Colossians 2:6-7

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Walk in Him

Build up in Him

Established in the faith

As you have been taught

Abounding with thanksgiving

Colossians 1:26-27

the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 1:26-27 The Passion Translation

There is a divine mystery—a secret surprise that has been concealed from the world for generations, but now it’s being revealed, unfolded and manifested for every holy believer to experience. Living within you is the Christ who floods you with the expectation of glory! This mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it!

This verse really speaks to the adventurer in me

The one who wants to search for the pearl of great price

A divine mystery

A secret surprise

Concealed from the world for generations

Now it is revealed

For us all to experience

This mystery is embedded in you

It is a heavenly treasure chest of hope

Lets look at our companion verse to Colossians 2:6-7

Ephesians 3:17-19

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Christ may dwell in your hearts

Through faith

The Mystery that I want us to see today is that we are being rooted and grounded in love

Your journey now is to see and align yourself with who you truly are

1.  You are rooted and grounded in Love

a.  That Love is the light that you bring to the world as the light of the world

We live in two kingdoms

The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of this world

The kingdom of God is eternal and that is what we are living for.

John 17:3

And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

But this world is like sand castles, like a tent, a vessel, a suit case

No matter what we do we die.  So instead of living for this world we live for eternity.
