New Wine in One Nine

New Wine in One Nine

OUR VALUES

Philippians 3:7-14

But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Acts 12:5-16

Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison. Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.” So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. And when Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.” So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, “It is his angel.” Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.

Our values are the way that we choose to behave with each other

Values defined:

Important and lasting beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what is good or bad and desirable or undesirable. Values have major influence on a person’s behavior and attitude and serve as broad guidelines in all situations.

WE VALUE EXPERIENCING CHRIST–WE ARE A PLACE TO BELIEVE.

Paul talks of 7 things that he experienced of Christ in this text

  1.  the excellence of the knowledge of Christ

He knew Him intellectually

2.  Jesus my Lord

He knew Him as His authority

3. found in Him

He knew Him as His Identity

4. that I may know Him

He knew Him intimately

5.  That I may know the power of His resurrection

He knew Him supernaturally

6.  That I may know the fellowship of His sufferings

He knew Him in his pain

7.  That I may be conformed to His death

He knew Him in his transformation

Because we value His presence we want you to know Jesus in every way possible.

WE VALUE PRAYER – WE BELIEVE GOD LISTENS AND ANSWERS.

1.  constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church

2.  he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

Not how we want to respond to God’s answers to prayer

“You are beside yourself!”

they were astonished.

What God did when they prayed:

Peter was bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.

Acts 12:7-11

an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And when Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.”

As a church we choose to be a church that believes in the power of God to answer prayer.
