Joy of the Promise #3

Joy of the Promise #3

The Joy of the Promise

Luke 1:30-33

Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

God makes promises to individuals in a a very private and intimate way.

These promises when fulfilled were intended to bless the whole world.

God’s Promises are always personal to us

God’s Promises are always bigger than us

7 promises are made to Mary here by the Angel Gabriel.

1.  You will have a son

2.  You will call his name Jesus

3.  He will be great

4.  Called the Son of the highest

5.  Given the throne of His father David

6.  He will Reign over the house of Jacob forever

7.  His Kingdom will have no end

I want to focus today on the 7th promise

His Kingdom will have no end!

This was a promise that was made many years before Mary through another young person as he interpreted a Kings dream.

Daniel 2:44

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

Psalm 145:13

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

Daniel quotes this Psalm

Daniel 4:3

How great are His signs, And how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And His dominion is from generation to generation.

Daniel 7:13-14

“I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.

Romans 14:17

for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

The Promise of His Kingdom in us

  1. Righteousness

We can call this being in right standing with God

It only comes to our lives by faith as we accept the grace of God to forgive our sins and make us a new creature.

This is where we understand our true identity that we are a Son or a Daughter of the Father.

Our Father is the King

And we are all on the same journey in this kingdom

  • From fear to love
  • From darkness to light
  • From blindness to sight

Jesus preached it this way in

Matthew 4:17

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Metanoia: change your cognitive perception, go beyond your knowledge

Changing one’s mind about someone or something

At hand: already here and in your very being.

2.  Peace

In the Kingdom we could say it this way:

When we are righteous we have peace and Joy

It is the result of the kingdom with in you

  • Peace that surpasses all understanding
  • Prince of peace
  • Blessed are the peacemakers
  • Peace be still
  • Peace goodwill toward men
  • Go in peace
  • Peace be to this house
  • The gift of His peace
  • In me you may have peace
  • Peace to you
  • Grace to you and peace from God our Father
  • Live peaceably with all men
  • The God of Peace
  • Author of peace
  • Christ our peace
  • For He Himself is our peace
  • Preached peace
  • Bond of peace
  • Gospel of peace
  • Lead a quiet and peaceable life
  • Pursue peace
  • Sown in peace

3. Joy

Joy comes from God

It is a result of being right with God

It is a moment by moment choice

You can choose to be miserable

Or you can have a metanoia

Jean Val Jean

Les Miserables

The Joy of this promise made to Daniel and then to Mary who was the vessel that God chose to use to fulfill this promise is one that is greater than any promise it is the promise of an everlasting kingdom

It is a promise that we live in daily and one that will live forever.  It is an everlasting Kingdom.

In this Kingdom He makes promises to us because this is a living kingdom and in those intimate promises that He makes to us He blesses those who are in His Kingdom.

His promises are always personal!

His promises are always bigger than us!
