His Intercession

His Intercession

His Intercession

Romans 8:26-28

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1.  Helps in our weaknesses

Desperation:

  • Is there a way out for me   Bills
  • I don’t know what to do     Lost job
  • Everything is such a mess Constant Pain
  • This thing is controlling me Personal struggles
  • Addictions Tired of everything
  • Business failures I have seen everyone
  • Doctor’s reports-Cancer Face to face with impossibility
  • Kids

When you are desperate, you are ready to pray:

  1. Prayer is an entrance to reality
  2. Prayer is a trip you take with certainty
  3. Prayer is an experience that gives you  an intelligently based peace
  4. You can pray with the knowledge that you are on target every time

Prayer is enacting His presence into the enemy’s territory.  It is violent because we are bringing light into darkness.  When you pray, you are releasing prisoners from the jailer.  You are breaking into a P.O.W. camp and delivering them from the Commandant.

2.  We do not now what we should pray for

Prayer is enacting His presence into the enemy’s territory.  It is violent because we are bringing light into darkness.  When you pray, you are releasing prisoners from the jailer.  You are breaking into a P.O.W. camp and delivering them from the Commandant.

3.  Makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God

Strategic in three areas:

  1. The relationship of the individual with God

Hebrews 7:25

Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Romans 8:34

Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

2.  The working of the Holy Spirit in the individual .

Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

3.  The influence of the whole church on society

 1 Timothy 2:1-4

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The Old Testament word for intercession:

When used in the Old Testament, the word “intercession” was derived from the Hebrew word “paga”, which means, to impinge (fall against, strike, dash against, clash upon) by accident, violence or importunity; to come between, cause to entreat, light upon, pray, reach, run.

The New Testament word for intercession

When used in the New Testament, the word “intercession” was derived from the Greek words “huperentugchano” (meaning to intercede in behalf of) and “entugchano” (meaning, to chance upon, deal with, make intercession).

  1. To fall upon (violence)
  2. To light upon or to meet by chance
  3. Borders reaching unto the assigned place(reach)
